Ashbrittle
Ashbrittle was a good winner of a competitive 14-furlong handicap at Doncaster on Friday. Ralph Beckett’s gelding always travelled well just in behind the leaders and Jim Crowley looked confident two furlongs out. It did take him a while to pick up and get going when Crowley asked him to, but he eventually found plenty inside the final furlong and he was well in control at the line.
Ashbrittle gave the impression from his previous races that he might enjoy this step up in trip and he was most certainly the best horse in the race here. He travelled like a dream throughout in his first-time visor, it did take him a while to pick up for pressure, and he only collared Comedy Act inside the final furlong, but he ultimately gave the impression that he may be suited by even further at this stage. A son of Rainbow Quest out of a Generous mare, a half-brother to a winner over 14 furlongs and a winner over 12 furlongs, there is plenty of stamina in his make-up and he could be a force in some of the big two mile handicaps next year. This was just his fifth-ever run, he is nicely progressive now and he is one to keep on side.
