Field Of Miracles
Field Of Miracles ran well to finish fourth on her racecourse debut in a seven-furlong maiden at Newmarket on Saturday. Slowly away, she took a keen hold through the early stages, held up at the back of the 18-runner field. Her rider Robert Havlin seemed to be intent on ensuring that she had a nice introduction, but she still made nice progress to get into contention going into the dip, and she finished her race really well inside the final furlong, going down by just a length and a half in the end and actually in front a couple of yards after the line.
This was a pleasing debut from the John Gosden-trained filly. She raced keenly and awkwardly throughout, but she still managed to finish really well under just a nice ride from Havlin, who didn’t knock her about in the closing stages. Much of the focus may be on her stable companion Joviality, who had been well-touted beforehand, was well-backed and was the stable’s first-string (she was ridden by William Buick and was sent off the 5/1 favourite). She was also making her racecourse debut and ran equally green throughout before keeping on well at the end, but she still only finished a half a length in front of Field Of Miracles and it may transpire that the lesser-fancied of the Gosden fillies may not be given full credit here.
A daughter of Galileo out of a mare who won over a mile as a juvenile, and a half-sister to the 10-furlong winner Sour Mash, she is bred to stay much further than this seven-furlong trip. A Cheveley Park-owned filly who cost 155,000gns as a yearling, she should come on a lot for this now, this was a most promising debut and she could prove to be a useful middle-distance filly next season.
