Waseet
Waseet finally bounced back to form on his first run since the spring to win the Garbutt & Elliot Conditions Stakes at York last Friday, following the promise of his juvenile year that included finishing runner-up in the Royal Lodge last September. He was held up last in the early stages, but they didn’t go a breakneck pace up front so this effort was even more commendable given that he had to come from so far back. He travelled well on the soft ground and picked up impressively, although he was still two lengths off the high class pair King’s Gambit and Kirklees entering the final furlong. The shape of the race was actually very similar to the Juddmonte International run over the same course and distance earlier in the season as two horses took each other on from quite a long way out only for another horse to come down the near side to win fairly cosily in the end having looked for a long while like he wasn’t going to get there, with the three of them finishing clear.
Waseet has reportedly been besieged by physical problems all through his life, including chipping a bone in the Royal Lodge, and so it may well be that he proves to be best with cut in the ground and/or when fresh. He may well go on from this as his confidence should be fairly high, and he should certainly be noted if he runs again this season. Even though he has had physical problems, trainers often like to strike while the iron is hot and he may well be seen out again in the next few weeks. Otherwise he may turn out to be a very decent four-year-old if kept in training.
