Lambro

The Willie Mullins-trained Lambro won the three-mile maiden hurdle at Naas on Sunday as easily as the market suggested he would. Settled in mid-division by Paul Townend in the early stages, the son of Milan made nice headway on the approach to the home turn travelling well, he took it up and the last and came away up the run-in to win easily in a good time.

This was just the second time in his life that Lambro had raced on ground that wasn't heavy. The other occasion was in a bumper at Clonmel last September, when he stayed on well to beat Adrian Maguire's useful Supreme Leader gelding Good Time Donie - winner of two of his races over hurdles since and second in the other when he made a bad mistake at the first flight - the pair of them clear of Gran Torino, who beat the obviously vastly improved Oscars Well on his subsequent run.

Lambro did get beaten by Crash on his debut over hurdles at Thurles in February, but the heavy ground was far from ideal that day, it was his first run in four and a half months, his rider may have overdone the waiting tactics, and even at that he only got beaten a short head by another useful sort.

It is impossible to know how good Lambro could be now, this was just his second run over hurdles, he is only six and he has a really nice progressive profile. He stays three miles well, he goes well on good ground, and he will be of interest wherever he goes next.
