Racy
Racy is worth noting again after his latest run in the Class 2 Sky Bet Dash at York on Saturday. Neil Callan pulled his blindfold off a fraction too early and the horse jumped too early and wrapped the unopened gate, with the result that he was back on his heels when the stalls did actually open. After that he was playing catch up, which was far from ideal for a horse who had led almost all the way on his previous run at Ascot before being caught close home. Even at that, he travelled fairly sweetly and made good progress up into midfield, and ran on well enough before he was eased in the closing stages to finish 10th. He didn’t have the clearest of passages and the action was largely developing on the far side, slightly away from where Racy was. He can be forgiven a poorish showing here given the circumstances, but there was still promise in his run.
Racy was put up here after running a promising third in a five-furlong handicap at York’s Dante meeting on his first run for Kevin Ryan. He hasn’t quite gone on as may have been expected yet, but there were excuses at Musselburgh where he was drawn well away from the rail where the action unfolded. His next run at Ascot was more like it, he was run down late on that day, principally by Noble Citizen, who upheld the value of the form in narrowly going down in the International Handicap back at Ascot on Saturday. Indeed that race is working out well and Racy is still one to keep onside. An easy six furlongs appears to be his optimum. The handicapper has dropped him 1lb for this, and there could be a big prize in him soon off his new mark of 89.
