Get It On
Get It On was outpaced almost from flagfall in the two-mile handicap chase at Doncaster on Saturday as Quicuyo, Silk Drum and Ultimate all helped set a fast pace. Nothing really got into the race from the rear, even third-placed Takeroc was handy enough throughout, and Get It On stayed on up the home straight, by-passing the omitted fences, to finish fourth. He was a long way behind turning for home, he was no better than seventh with three furlongs to run, and with no fences to jump up the home straight he had little hope of clawing back the ground, but he did run on well, passing several rivals, to suggest that he could be nicely treated when he goes up in trip.
Evan Williams’s horse is not the most fluent jumper around, but he is getting the hang of things, and the strong pace here put pressure on his jumping through the early stages of the race, and left him a little out of his comfort zone early on. He seemed to appreciate this good ground though, judged on the way he finished strongly. He has been eased 1lb after this run, back down to a mark of 127, the mark off which he finished second to Falcon Island earlier in the season at Ludlow. The Cockney Mackem was behind him in third that day, and those two are both progressive and consistent young chasers – Falcon Island is now rated 18lb higher than he was for that Ludlow race.
Get It On ran over as far as two and three quarter miles earlier in the season, he was actually still travelling well when he fell at the third last fence at Hereford in November over that trip when attempting to concede 5lb to Reynoldstown winner Invictus - who was fourth favourite for the RSA Chase before his injury - and he will be interesting when he goes back up in trip now. He has been running well through the winter when the stable was not firing, but now that the yard’s horses have turned the corner, Get It On should have improvement to come. He may be little under-rated now after this run.
