Tannery
Tannery continued her progression when winning the Group 3 Kilboy Estate Stakes over nine furlong on Sunday at The Curragh, doing really well to get up and beat the highly talented Caponata, and this may not even be the limit of her ability.
She saw plenty of daylight early on and was consequently quite keen for the first couple of furlongs. The pace was not overly strong, but she soon settled well on the heels of the leaders, and she showed a really willing attitude to get up and deny Caponata, who had looked to have stolen a winning advantage when going into a decisive lead just over a furlong out. The presence of Up, runner-up to Beauty Parlour in the French 1000 Guineas, in third adds ballast to the form.
Tannery is hugely progressive, she handles this easy ground really well, and the fact that she was able to win this, a race with strength in-depth, given that she was dropping down two furlongs in trip from her previous win, and that she had been a little keener than ideal in the early stages, was impressive. She has the pace for nine furlongs, at least on easy ground, but she stays in excess of a mile and a quarter well, and she could be a big player in even higher-class races now.
David Wachman spoke of taking her to America in the autumn, but she could also be worth a try in some of the top-class fillies’ races here. She is in the Royal Whip Stakes, and although she would have to take on the colts there, she would still be of interest in that, especially if the ground came up on the easy side. She is good, and she could be even better than she has shown to date.
