Akorakor
There was a lot to like about the manner in which Akorakor landed the Racing Post Champion Point-To-Point Bumper at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday.
The Gigginstown House gelding did this well. He was always handy in the hands of Jane Mangan, he improved between the front two as they came through the wings of the third last hurdle, he took up the running on rounding the home turn and he stayed on really well for pressure all the way to the line, fending off all challengers. He actually kicked two and a half lengths clear with 100 yards to run before probably idling and allowing the second and third to close up again.
The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding was weak in the market here, just as he had been before he won his point-to-point, his only previous run, he probably doesn’t show much at home, but he is a real battler and that will stand to him in the future. This was a big effort to win this as a four-year-old, it is the first time the race has been won by a four-year-old in 13 years. The race has a rich history, it has been won in the past by Tofino Bay, Pandorama, Last Instalment and Simonsig, and Akorakor is an exciting prospect.
