Majestic Jasmine
Majestic Jasmine, the first foal out of the Group 1-winning mare Majestic Roi, supplemented a win at Tipperary at the end of June with another win in a rated race at Fairyhouse on Sunday, and she may not be finished yet.
The John Oxx-trained filly had pulled clear over nine furlongs at Tipperary, and she had no problems at all with stepping up to a mile and a quarter on Sunday. She settled nicely in the early stages of the race, and always travelled well behind the fast pace that Keeping set. She angled out early in the home straight and Declan McDonogh didn’t really get serious with her until she struck the front. She picked up well down the centre of the track a furlong out and she kept on well despite probably idling and drifting towards the far rail. Her winning time was good, only the three-time Australian Group 1-winning Sea Siren bettering it on the day comparatively, and only fractionally so, and she was considerably comparatively quicker than the other two races run over a mile and a quarter or further on the day.
Jaber Abdullah's filly is progressive, this was her second win on the bounce from just her third race this season and just the sixth of her life. She may not have stayed a mile and a half on her seasonal bow, but she had been keen in front on that occasion, she was weak in the market, and John Oxx’s horses were not running that well at the time. They have really got going now, and Majestic Jasmine could get a mile and a half yet. There is probably no need to go beyond a mile and a quarter for the time being though, she is thriving at present and she should continue to progress. She seems to love this fast ground – her dam is by fast ground influence Street Cry, and all of her three wins, including the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes, were on quick ground. She will be of interest wherever she races next.
