Field Of Fame
Field Of Fame put up a really promising performance to finish third behind the exciting Mahsoob in the 10-furlong handicap that opened proceedings at Newbury on Saturday.
Settled back in the field through the early stages of the race from his outside draw by David Probert, Andrew Balding's horse was keener than ideal through the first three furlongs, despite the fact that the early pace was strong, but that was understandable given that this was his first run for 563 days. He travelled well into the home straight, he moved up nicely behind the front rank on the run to the two-furlong pole and he closed on the leaders on the run to the furlong pole. He showed signs of greenness as he did, however, he hung a little before moving forward. As he did, though, Mahsoob swooped on the outside and moved over towards him, squeezing him up between himself and Balmorral Castle. Field Of Fame faltered, but it was impressive that, once back on an even keel, he ran on again to take third place, running all the way to the line.
Field Of Fame is an interesting horse again now. He won his maiden over a mile on heavy ground at Salisbury in October 2013, and he was off the track from then until Saturday. He handled the fast ground well on Saturday, and he stayed 10 furlongs well. He appears to be versatile, and he has lots of options if he can remain sound. The handicapper raised him just 4lb to a mark of 86, and that is not harsh. There could be a good handicap in him off that mark.
