Majestic Queen
Majestic Queen put up a really nice performance to win the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies' Stakes at Lingfield on Saturday. Poorly drawn in stall three, well away from the favoured stands rail, she came under pressure at the two-furlong pole. Ridden along out in the centre, it looked as if New Providence was going to come and claim her when that filly got a gap close to the stands rail, travelling well. But Tracey Collins' filly found lots for William Buick out towards the centre of the course, and she ran all the way to the line to beat the useful New Providence by two lengths.
This was a career-best from the Kheleyf filly by some way. Winner of the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at Leopardstown last June, she was well beaten on her debut this season in the Group 3 Gladness Stakes at The Curragh. But she found plenty for pressure on Saturday and she posted a really impressive performance, despite not having the run of the race. New Providence is a talented filly, she was only beaten a short head in the Nell Gwyn on her debut this season, and she was only beaten three lengths by Lucida in the Rockfel Stakes last year. Also, the time was good, the fastest time of the day and just above Racing Post par. She stays a mile and, given how well and how willingly she hit the line here, she would be worth another try at that trip. The Windsor Forest could be the race for her at Royal Ascot, she ran well to finish third behind Amulet and Ribbons in the Sodexo Fillies' Handicap over the Windsor Forest course and distance last year.
