Prince Hellvelyn
Prince Hellvelyn put up a really nice performance to finish third in a six-furlong maiden at York on Saturday on his racecourse debut.
Slowly away and last of the 11 runners through the early stages of the race, Tom Eaves gave the Hellvelyn gelding plenty of time to find his racing rhythm. He was niggled along out the back of the field after two furlongs, but he came back on the bridle early passing the three-furlong pole. Moved towards the centre of the track, he picked up nicely and stayed on well. He was never going to get to the two leaders, Sandahl and Fast And Furious, both of whom had had a run, but he finished off his race strongly under largely just a hands and heels ride.
Prince Hellvelyn did best of the seven newcomers. A half-brother to four winners, including the talented Yourartisonfire, he should have enjoyed this experience, which was laced with potential, and he could come on appreciably for it. His trainer Brian Ellison has had 13 two-year-old runners this season so far, and no winners. Prince Hellvelyn could change that soon. He is entered in a median auction maiden at Newcastle on Thursday. He should be winning his maiden soon.
