Racing History

Racing History put up a good performance to win the 10-and-a-half-furlong handicap at Chester on Saturday.

Slowly away and held up out the back by Kevin Stott through the early stages of the race, he was niggled along passing the winning post first time, and for a fair way down the back straight, but they did go fast up front, and that played into his hands. Last turning for home, his rider initially went for a run among horses in the home straight but, when he quickly realised that there was no room there, he switched towards the outside. He gave up ground and momentum in so doing, but Racing History had enough in reserve to cope with that. He picked up nicely and finished strongly down the near side to win well in a fair time, the fastest comparative time of the day and just 0.18secs/furlong slower than Racing Post par.

This was visually impressive in the end and, while the Godolphin horse was advantaged by being held up off a fast pace, he still has a really nice profile now. He is a full-brother to Lockinge Stakes winner Farhh, but their dam won over a mile and a half, and it looks like Racing History has inherited her stamina. He was stepping up from a mile to 10 and a half furlongs here, but he raced as if he would improve again for a step up to a mile and a half. The handicapper raised him 8lb to a mark of 99, but that mark should still be well within his capabilities. This was just his third race ever, and he has bags of scope for progression.

By Pivotal, he won his maiden on easy ground, and he could do even better now back on easy ground in the autumn. He holds an entry in the Great Voltigeir Stakes at York, which is a measure of the regard in which he is held by connections.
