Queen's Trust
Queen's Trust ran a lot better than her finishing position suggests in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot on Thursday.
The early pace was not overly strong and Sir Michael Stoute's filly got shuffled back towards the rear of the field. They did not go that strongly through the race, and Olivier Peslier had no real option but to sit at the rear of the field and wait for the pace to pick up. It didn't really do so until they started to round the home turn, at which stage the Cheveley Park filly was still almost last. Wide around the home turn, she picked up for pressure out wide, but she had to chart a passage through horses. It never looked likely that she would win, and Even Song was an impressive winner, but Queen's Trust made ground from the top of the home straight all the way to the line to take fourth place.
This was a frustrating run for the Dansili filly, but it was still a nice step forward from her seasonal debut, when she finished fourth behind We Are Ninety. She didn't enjoy a great run through the race that day either, but she ran a nice race on that, her seasonal debut.
She stepped up on that Thursday however, stepped up to a mile and a half for the first time, and that opens up options. This was just her fourth race, so she has the potential to progress for this experience. She will be of interest wherever she goes next, she should be able to win a Group race over a mile and a quarter or a mile and a half, and she may remain a little under the radar.
