Sea Wolf
Sea Wolf put up a nice performance to win the seven-furlong handicap at The Curragh last Sunday.
Always travelling well through the early stages of the race towards the rear of the field for Colin Keane, he came under pressure on the run to the two-furlong pole when the pace quickened. His response was not immediate, it looked like he was in trouble for a few strides but, moved towards the near side by Keane, he picked up well from the furlong pole and he powered through the final 100 yards to win, going away, by three lengths.
This was an impressive performance from Sea Wolf on his first run for Ger Lyons. A progressive seven-furlong horse for Michael Dods last season, he was only just beaten by Funding Deficit in a seven-furlong handicap at Ayr on his debut this season off a mark of 82. Raised to a mark of 84 for that, he proved on Sunday that he was very capable off this type of mark. He does go well on this soft ground, but he kept on so willingly that, even though he is a half-brother to seven-furlong specialist Cable Bay, there could be further improvement forthcoming for another try at a mile. He has had plenty of racing for a four-year-old, but he won with plenty in hand on Sunday and he could kick on again now for Ger Lyons.
