So Beloved

So Beloved can be marked up a little on the bare form of his run in finishing second in the City of York Stakes at York on Friday. He travelled through his race well, but Nemoralia moved up on his inside on the run to the 1f pole, just got first run on him and moved slightly to her right, with the result that So Beloved got squeezed up a little between her and the fading Glen Moss. He recovered his equilibrium and picked up well enough to retain the runner-up spot from the fast-finishing Jallota, but he would have done even better had he had a clear run. He may not have beaten the winner, but she is a highly-talented filly, and he would have finished a lot closer to her had he enjoyed a cleaner run through the race.

David O'Meara's horse is a high-class performer, and he remains a potentially under-rated horse. There is a race like this in him. He is probably a 7f specialist, it looked like the 1m of the Sussex Stakes just stretched him a little in Group 1 company on his previous run, so he will always be of interest over this specialist trip.
