Quebee

Quebee put up a nice performance to win the 9f handicap at Goodwood on Saturday. Held up in mid-division early on, she made nice progress on the inside to track the leader Dawn Mirage on the run to the pole. Switched out on the run to the 1f pole, she stayed on well to go past the early leader and kept on to win by over 1l, with the pair of them nicely clear of the well-backed Red Rannagh in third.

This was another step forward from Clive Cox's filly, and she continues to progress. At her best on this fast ground, she stayed this 9f well, and her trained said afterwards that she could step up to 10f, which makes sense now. The handicapper raised her 7lb for this victory, but she is progressive enough to take that type of hike in her stride. This was just her seventh ever race, it was her third win in her last four runs, and she can continue to progress. She is entered in the Duty Free Handicap at Newbury on 17th September, and she will be of interest if she takes her chance in that under a 5lb penalty, a race in which she would be 2lb well-in.
