Clemmie
Clemmie put up an encouraging performance to finish third in the opening race at The Curragh on Saturday, the six-furlong juveniles' maiden.
Slowly enough away and settled in rear through the early stages of the race by Ryan Moore, the Galileo filly came under pressure early enough. Moved towards the near side by Moore, she responded nicely to riding, she stayed on nicely down the near side and looked a threat to the winner Gasta deep inside the final furlong. She just couldn't catch the winner, she went down by a neck, and she was beaten by the bob of a head by Now You're Talking for the runner-up spot, but it was a fine run.
It was not easy to make ground from the rear at The Curragh on Saturday, so Clemmie's effort can be marked up at least a little. She was one of just a few horses who were able to go close from the rear on the day. Also, she wore a tongue-tie on this, her racecourse debut, so it is probable that the easy ground was not a positive for her. She is a full-sister to Churchill, who also finished third on his racecourse debut at this meeting last year, so it is unlikely that she will be under the radar, but it will still be interesting to follow her progress. She should come on for this, her racecourse debut, she should be able to win her maiden now without too much fuss, and she could go on to much bigger things.
