Bloomfield
Bloomfield put up a really nice performance to win the 10-furlong three-year-old fillies' maiden at The Curragh last Saturday.
Slowly away from stall 13 on the outside and well back in the field early on, she travelled well up on the outside of the field down the back straight. Always wide and no better than mid-division behind a decent pace that Pocketfullofdreams set, she travelled well into the home straight for Billy Lee, and moved nicely in behind the three leaders at the three furlong marker. She came under a ride on the run to the two-furlong pole, and she hung to her right a little in behind the leaders, but, moved back towards the outside on the run to the furlong pole, she stayed on really strongly from the furlong pole to wear down Feathery, running on strongly all the way to the line to win by over three lengths, with another three and a half lengths back to the third filly Roccia Bella.
It was a taking performance from Willie McCreery's filly on this, her racecourse debut. It was a decent maiden, Pocketfullofdreams had finished seventh in the Oaks, and she ensured that this was a well-run race. There was a lot to like about the manner in which the winner travelled through her race, and galloped on willingly all the way to the line. She clocked a decent time, and it is significant that her trainer said afterwards that she had only recently figured out what was being asked of her.
By Teofilo out of a half-sister to Temple Stakes and King's Stand Stakes winner Cassandra Go, dam of Irish Guineas and Nassau Stakes winner Halfway To Heaven, she is a three-parts sister to Group 3 seven-furlong winner Prima Luce, but Prima Luce stayed further than seven furlongs, and Bloomfield obviously stays this 10 furlongs well. She raced as if she could improve for a step up in trip.
She should improve anyway, this was her racecourse debut and it appears as though she has been a slow learner. She will be interesting now wherever she goes next, stepped up in grade and perhaps stepped up in trip.
