Hey Jonesy
Hey Jonesy did very well to finish third in the big Goffs sales race that opened proceedings at York on Thursday. Really well-backed all morning, he was away sharping from stall 18, but it always looked like the low-drawn horses held the edge. Hey Jonesy led the group of eight that raced towards the near side from early, and he had to do a lot of his own running without any cover. As well as that, he was probably racing against a significant draw bias, low-drawn horses often have the edge at York on the straight track, and that advantage can be accentuated on easy ground, which they had during the early part of the week at York.
Kevin Ryan's horse came well clear of the horses who raced with him on the near side, and it looked like he might go on and win it, but he had done a lot of running to the furlong pole, and his effort just flattened out a little inside the final 150 yards as Tangled and Great Prospector finished strongly in a duel on the far side. Even so, the Excelebration colt finished third, beaten just a neck and a half a length, and he came well clear of Darkanna, who finished second on the near side. The other three horses who, with Hey Jonesy, filled the first four places were drawn, respectively, three, four and five, and the first four were clear. Hey Jonesy raced from stall 18.
He does go well on this easy ground, and he was proven at York before this, over this course and distance. Also, he may not be under the radar, plenty have noted this run. Even so, it could still be worth keeping him in mind. He could be very talented.
