Mazzini

Mazzini did well to get as close as he did in the 6f handicap, given that he missed the break and was held up last of the eight runners in a race in which Andrea Atzeni was able to dictate a sedate pace from the front of Raven's Lady. James Fanshawe's horse made nice progress from the rear for George Wood from a furlong and a half out to take fourth place, three and a half lengths behind the winner. He does need things to drop right for him, but he is a talented performer when they do. This was his first run since November, and he could improve for it, for all that he was strong in the market here. He will be of interest next time in a more strongly-run race, and he will be of particular interest when he returns to Chelmsford, a track at which it appears that he is at his best.
