Delta Work
Delta Work did well to win the 2m 3f beginners' chase, over a distance that should have been sharper than ideal. Gordon Elliott's horse led or disputed the lead from flagfall under Davy Russell with his stable companion Ben Dundee, and his jumping was very good for a debutant. He was fluent, and he was able to shorten up nimbly when he needed to. They picked up from the front at the third last fence, and he showed a lot of pace. He got in tight to the final fence when it looked like he needed to jump it fluently, in a line with Ben Dundee and Niven, but he was nimble over the obstacle, and he battled on well on the run-in to get back up and win by three parts of a length.
Winner of the Pertemps Final as a novice last March at Cheltenham, the Gigginstown House horse proved that he was classy when he went down by just a neck to Next Destination in the Grade 1 3m novices' hurdle at the Punchestown Festival. He is a real chaser in the making, and he should do better when he steps up in trip. Also, he could improve significantly for this experience, his first run since April and his chasing bow. He is only five and he could take a high rank among the top staying novice chasers this season.
