Tarnawa

Tarnawa was game in winning the Group 3 Blue Wind Stakes. Settled nicely by Chris Hayes early on, Dermot Weld's filly picked up nicely when her rider took her towards the outside early in the home straight, and she stayed on strongly to just get the better of Who's Steph. The runner-up is a classy older filly who had the run of the race up front and who had the rail beside her all the way up the home straight, and Tarnawa did really well to get the better of her.

This was just HH the Aga Khan's filly's sixth run, and it was a career-best performance. She didn't win in three attempts last year, but she kept on well to win her maiden on her debut this season at Leopardstown, and she ran a big race to finish a close-up third behind Pink Dogwood in the Listed Salsabil Stakes at Navan at the end of April. This was a step forward from that. She saw out the 10f trip well and, out of a mare who won over 12f, she raced like she could improve for a step up to 12f. She could be a lively outsider for the Oaks.
