Fleeting
Fleeting ran a big race to finish third in the Oaks. Held up at the rear of the field early on by Wayne Lordan, she travelled well into the home straight, but she had to wait for racing room at the 2f marker. Switched towards the inside at the furlong pole, she finished off her race really well to get up for third.
You are always at the mercy of luck in-running when you race in rear at Epsom, but if she had had a better run from the 2f marker, she would have gone even closer. As it was, she did well to finish a staying-on third behind Anapurna and Pink Dogwood. There was a sense that she let the leaders at each other, and that she picked up the pieces, ridden away from the heat of battle by Wayne Lordan, but that notion may under-rate her performance a little. Winner of the Group 2 May Hill Stakes on her final run last year at two, this was a big step up on her run in the Guineas on her debut this season. She could be a Ribblesdale filly, but she could also be an Irish Oaks filly.
