Soldier's Call

Soldier's Call ran well to finish third in the King's Stand Stakes. Fast away, as he usually is, Archie Watson's horse led from flagfall and lasted all the way to inside the two-furlong marker, where he was passed by Blue Point on his right and Battaash on his left. He kept on willingly for Danny Tudhope all the way to the line though, to take third place, just two and three-quarter lengths behind the winner, and taking that position from Mabs Cross, who had probably just passed him.

The Showcasing colt obviously goes well at Ascot, he won the Windsor Castle at this meeting last year on his only previous run there, but he has also won at Chantilly, and he won the Group 2 Flying Childers at Doncaster last September. He was beaten on his seasonal return at York, but this was a nice step forward from that. He is only three, he has lots of scope for progression now as a sprinter. He will be of interest wherever he goes next, and he will be of particular interest when he goes back to Ascot or Doncaster.
