Viadera

They went fast in the listed three-year-old fillies' seven-furlong race, and Viadera was up there with the pace from flagfall. Ger Lyons' filly travelled well into the home straight for Colin Keane, and she looked a likely winner when she hit the front at the two-furlong marker. She kept on well from there, but she just couldn't hold off the late challenge of, first, Cava on the far side, and then Tapisserie down the near side. Those two fillies had raced in second last and last places respectively from early, and it looked like Tapisserie was out-paced early on, which bears testimony to the fact that the early pace was strong. Viadera did best by far of the fillies who raced up with the pace, and she was well up there from flagfall. The fourth filly, Impulsion, was also held up from early.

This was just Viadera's sixth run. Winner of her maiden at The Curragh on Irish Derby weekend last year on her racecourse debut, she was only just beaten in the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes last year, and she was thought good enough to run in the Group 2 Debutante Stakes. She didn't race again after that last season, and after making her debut this term in the Leopardstown Guineas Trial, she kept on well to win a premier fillies' handicap at The Curragh off a mark of 100 on Irish Guineas weekend on her last run before Wednesday. By Bated Breath and from the family of Passage Of Time, she has raced just six times in her life, and she should continue to progress. She is declared for the listed Cairn Rouge Stakes at Killarney on Wednesday evening. She has a favourite's chance in that race, and her Group 2 and Group 1 entries for later in the season may not be overly aspirational.
