Sneaky Getaway
Sneaky Getaway put up a nice performance to win the qualified riders' maiden. Settled in mid-division and along the inside by Patrick Mullins early on, Emmet Mullins' horse moved towards the outside as they raced out of the back straight. He made eye-catching headway around the outside as they rounded the home turn, and he quickly joined the front rank as they straightened up. Kicked on at the two-furlong pole, he quickly got the better of Chosen Mate, and he stayed on strongly to come more than three lengths clear of Gordon Elliott's horse, with another four lengths back to third-placed Go Another One, who was nicely clear of the rest of the field.
This was a really nice performance by the Getaway gelding, a performance of both style and substance. The ease with which he moved up around the field at the top of the home straight was impressive, as was the strength with which the finished off his race and the manner in which he came clear of two good rivals who filled the places. Chosen Mate won a Grade 2 novices' hurdle at Naas last February, and he finished fifth in the Grade 1 Mersey Hurdle at Aintree, while Go Another One, winner of his beginners' chase at Clonmel on his previous run, won the Grade 3 Michael Purcell Hurdle at Thurles last February, and he finished fifth in the Grade 1 Irish Daily Mirror Hurdle at Punchestown in May.
Sneaky Getaway himself ran in five bumpers before this, and he won two of them. He is a nicely progressive individual, and his trainer said that he thinks that he will operate well at Galway. He has a few options at Galway next week, and he will be of interest in whichever race he lines up.
