Glorious Journey
Glorious Journey put up a nice performance to win the Hungerford Stakes. Settled just behind early leader Donjuan Triumphant through the early stages of the race, he picked up well when James Doyle asked him to, to hit the front on the run to the furlong marker. He was challenged by Librisa Breeze all the way through the final furlong, but he battled well to get home by a half a length in the end.
It was a good performance by Charlie Appleby's horse, over a good trip for him and on the easy ground that suits him well. On the face of it, it was a big step forward from his previous run, when he could finish only eighth in the July Cup, but he ran well that day, better than the bare form of the run suggested. He missed the break and he showed a lot of speed to lead on the stands side from half way before those exertions took their toll and he faded. A Group 3 winner over a mile and over an extended seven furlongs, the step back up to this seven-furlong trip suited him well, as did the move to easier ground. He has always been highly regarded, and he will be of interest now in the autumn on easy ground in good seven-furlong races like the Park Stakes and the Prix de la Foret.
