Infrastructure

Infrastructure stayed on nicely to take third place in the two-mile handicap, behind Eddystone Rock and Rare Groove. They went fast from early here, it was a race that was run to suit the hold-up horses, and Infrastructure was advantaged by behind held up by Rob Hornby behind the fast pace. Even so, there was a lot to like about the manner in which he stayed on among horses, down the centre of the track, to get up for third place, closest at the finish.

Winner over a mile and a half last year as a three-year-old off a mark of 83, and a winner in July at Chester over a mile and a half off a mark of 90, he probably improved when he stepped up to a mile and six furlongs and finished third in a Newmarket handicap at the end of last month, and this was probably another step forward on his first attempt at two miles. A 2lb hike is not harsh, and he has the potential to progress again now as a stayer. He holds an entry in the Cesarewitch Trial at Newmarket on Saturday, and he will be of interest if he takes his chance in that.
