Rise Hall

Rise Hall ran on nicely to take fourth place in the 10-and-a-half-furlong handicap.

They didn't go a great gallop early on, and Rise Hall was not advantaged by the fact that he missed the break. He was rousted along early by Rob Hornby, but the first turn comes up very quickly after the start over 10 and a half furlongs at York, and he still had to settle for an early position that was further back in the field than ideal. No better than 10th or 11th at the top of the home straight, he came under pressure early on the far side, and it looked like he was going to drop away, but he stuck to his task admirably, and he kept on well on the far side - probably not the fastest part of the track on the day - to finish fourth behind the impressive and progressive winner Forest Of Dean.

Rise Hall is progressive himself. This was his fourth run this season, his fourth run too since he was gelded, and his record for the season going into this race was 1221. He finished second behind Escobar in a one-mile handicap at York in July off a mark of 94, and he stepped up on that to win a 10-furlong handicap at Newmarket on his last run before Saturday off a 2lb higher mark. He raced off a 3lb higher mark again on Saturday, and the handicapper left him on Saturday's mark of 99 afterwards. He has raced just 10 times in his life, and he remains of interest off that type of mark. A strongly-run 10 furlongs is probably ideal for him, on good or fast ground. He should do better next time off a stronger pace, or better-positioned off a moderate pace, and his best form is at York and on Newmarket's July Course.
