Silk Forest

Silk Forest was seriously impressive in winning the Listed Garnet Stakes.  Sent to the front from flagfall by Billy Lee, she travelled well in front into the home straight and, when her rider asked her to pick up from the front, she did so impressively.  She came away from her rivals from the two-furlong marker, staying on strongly to win by five lengths.

This was a smart performance from Paddy Twomey's filly.  It was visually impressive, and the form has a solid look to it given that runner-up was the talented mare Trethias, a 103-rated listed race winner who finished a close-up fourth in the Group 3 Pride Stakes at Newmarket on her previous run.  This was just Silk Forest's fourth run too.  Unraced as a juvenile, she finished second in maidens at Leopardstown and Limerick in April, and, back after a slight setback, she got off the mark in a maiden at Leopardstown in August.  This was her first run since then, and it was the best run of her career by some way, so she has the potential to progress significantly now.  She handled the soft ground well, but she won her maiden on good ground, so it appears that she is versatile in terms of ground conditions. She stayed the mile well, and she will be a very interesting filly over this type of trip next season.
