Walk Away
Walk Away put up a promising performance on his chasing debut to finish second to Faugheen in the two-and-a-half-mile beginners' chase. It took him a little while to get into his rhythm over his fences, and he was crowded out of it a little at the second and third, but he travelled well down the back straight. He moved nicely just behind the leaders down the side of the track, and he travelled well up on the outside around the home turn. He led on the run between the final two fences and, while he didn't have any answer to the turn of foot that Faugheen showed on the far side, he kept on well to finish a clear second.
This was a really nice start to his chasing career by Henry de Bromhead's horse. He was a nice staying novice hurdler last season, he ran a nice race to finish fourth behind Champ in the Sefton Hurdle at Aintree in April over three miles, when he did well to stay on as well as he did off a sedate early pace. This two-and-a-half-mile trip is probably shorter than ideal for him now over fences, and he will be of interest when he steps up in trip.
