Silver Sheen

Silver Sheen did well to win the Pertemps Qualifier. Prominent from early and in front from the fourth flight, it didn't look good when he was passed as they raced towards the end of the back straight. But, switched toward the near side in the home straight by Robbie Power, he stayed on strongly from the second last flight. He stumbled a little on landing over the last, which wasn't a help, but he re-gathered his momentum and stayed on well up the run-in to get up and win by a neck.

It was a strong race. Last year's Pertemps Final winner Sire Du Berlais was back in fourth, while third-placed One For The Team came out and won a three-mile handicap hurdle at Newbury next time off a 2lb higher mark. He is now rated 14lb higher than he was at Warwick.

The British handicapper raised Silver Sheen by 7lb to a mark of 137, and that should see him get into the Pertemps Final on a nice racing weight. He is seriously progressive, he has now won his last three, he is still a novice, and he has run just five times over hurdles. There could be more to come from him, and he could be a big player if he takes his chance in the Pertemps Final.
