Current Option
Current Option ran better than his finishing position suggests in the Irish Lincoln. He was keen enough through the early stages of the race, and he raced in the front rank, but he was still there disputing the lead as they raced to the furlong pole, as his stable companions Bowerman and Saltonstall made ground on either side of him. For a few strides, the three stable companions disputed the lead. Current Option faded from there, as his early exertions told, and Colin Keane wasn't hard on him through the final 150 yards. He finished 12th, but he ran much better than that.
He should improve for this, his seasonal debut. Also, while he gets a mile, he is probably even more effective over seven furlongs, given his forward-going style of racing. He progressed last season, his first with Ado McGuinness, he finished second in the Irish Cambridgeshire and he won the big seven-furlong handicap at Leopardstown on Irish Champions' Weekend, and, he is only four and this was just his ninth run, so he has the potential to progress further this season. The handicapper left him on his mark of 94, and that is a mark off which he should be competitive in other big handicaps.
