Mohican Heights
Mohican Heights ran well to finish third in the King Edward VII Stakes. Settled at the rear of the field early on by Andrea Atzeni, last of the six runners behind only a moderate pace, he tracked favourite Mogul up the side of the track and into the home straight. Still last of the six runners as they turned for home, but travelling well, he had to come wide into the home straight. He was caught a little flat-footed when they quickened in front, and he had to come around Mogul, who didn't take him into the race as you might have expected. About six lengths behind the leader Pyledriver as they raced to the final furlong, he stayed on past Mogul to take third place, four lengths behind the winner.
One for one last year as a juvenile when he was with Fozzy Stack - he beat Lil Grey and Masteroffoxhounds in a good Leopardstown maiden - the Australia colt was bought by David Simcock for £520,000 at the Goffs London Sale before Royal Ascot last year. Taken out of the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, he didn't race again until August, when he ran out an impressive winner of a listed race over a mile at Salisbury. This was his first run since then, and he should be able to step forward from it. He stayed the 12-furlong trip well, and there is lots of stamina in his pedigree, he is a three-parts brother to Eye Of The Storm, who has won two listed races over two miles, and he is a half-brother to Curbyourenthusiasm, who won twice over a mile and six furlongs, so he could go further. He could be a St Leger horse this year.
