Louie De Palma
Louie De Palma did well to finish fourth in the Silver Wokingham on his seasonal debut. Clive Cox's horse raced up with the pace in the group in the centre of the track, away from the stands rail, which were favoured all well. Just five of the 19 runners raced in the group on the near side and, among those five were the horses who filled the first three places, Chiefofchiefs, Burmese Waltz and Nahaarr. Also, the winner and the runner-up came from the rear, whereas Louie De Palma raced up with the pace from flagfall. He was left on his own a bit out in the centre too when leader Vintage Brut moved over to the stands rail, but he travelled well to the two-furlong marker, and he kept on admirably for Adam Kirby to retain third place.
Louie De Palma is eight years old now, but he was off the track for almost four years after his two-year-old season, so he is making up for lost time. Clive Cox's horse ran well to finish a close second to Flavius Titus in a good six-furlong handicap on Newmarket's July Course last June, so he will be of interest if he runs at the July meeting this year. There could be a good handicap in him off his mark in the mid-90s.
