Emperor Of The Sun

Emperor Of The Sun did really well to finish as close as he did in the 10-furlong three-year-olds' race.  The outsider of the seven runners, he didn't help his cause by being slowly away.  He must have been six or seven lengths behind the main group after they had gone 100 yards.  He made up the ground quite quickly, he was in among them on the inside before they had gone two-furlongs, but he obviously had to expend more energy than should have been the case just to get up there.  He responded well to pressure too in the home straight.  You would have forgiven him if he had weakened, but he didn't, he kept on well for Gavin Ryan to finish fourth, just three lengths behind the winner Napa Valley, with the front four nicely clear.

This was a nice run by the Galileo colt on his first run for Donnacha O'Brien.  Winner of his maiden at the Galway festival last August when he was with Aidan O'Brien, he probably stepped forward from that when he finished third in a one-mile nursery at Listowel last September.  This was his seasonal debut, so he should be able to build on it.  He has been slowly away in all four of his races to date and, if he can start to get away a little more quickly, there could be further progression forthcoming.
