Makanah

Fourth-placed Stone Of Destiny caught plenty of eyes in the opening five-furlong handicap on Saturday, and it is true, he missed the break and had to go around the field, but the winner Makanah put up a nice performance to win the race. Well-backed beforehand, it wasn't ideal that he was drawn in stall one, furthest from the favoured stands rail, but he broke well and he was able to tuck in just behind the leaders. He picked up well too when Paul Mulrennan asked him to, he joined Copper Knight deep inside the final furlong and he poked his nose in front to get home by a short head. The winning margin was tight, but he may have had a little more in hand.

Julie Camacho's horse is five and he has had had plenty of racing, but he was progressive at the end of last season, he ran well in big handicaps at York and Doncaster over five and a half furlongs. He appeared to appreciate the bare five furlongs here and the sharp track. Rider Paul Mulrennan said afterwards that he should come on for the run too, so he could be a sprinter to follow for a little while. He goes well at York and Musselburgh and Doncaster, a fast and sharp five furlongs on fast ground seems to suit him well and, although raised by 5lb to a mark of 101 for this, it could still be worth having him on side.
