Fame And Acclaim

Fame And Acclaim ran out an impressive winner of the one-mile three-year-olds' rated race. Sharply away and quickly into a nice position for Declan McDonogh in clear second place behind the clear leader Bella Brazil, he travelled well into the home straight. He moved up nicely on the outside of the leader as his rivals came under pressure, hit the front on the run to the furlong pole, and stayed on strongly to win by three lengths from Bella Brazil, with Layfayette staying on well down the outside to take third place.

This was a deserved win for Joseph O'Brien's horse on his sixth outing. His trainer's representative Brendan Powell said afterwards that he was a big horse who was probably a bit weak last season. It seems that he is a significantly improved horse this season, his first as a gelding. He put up a good performance on his previous run too at Naas, when he travelled like the best horse in the race to the two-furlong marker, he had Lough Cutra and Toronto beaten on his inside, and he picked up well, but then Meangingful Vote picked up as well, and he seemed to lose concentration before keeping on again close home. This was another step forward on that run. This one-mile trip looks like a good trip for him, both on breeding and on performance, and he should be able to step forward again now with this win under his belt.
