Silver Spear

Silver Spear ran well at a big price on her seasonal debut in the five-furlong handicap. She was a little bit keen through the early stages of the race on the far side, but she moved up nicely to chase the leader Elzaamone. Andrew Slattery didn't have to really get after her until they were on the run to the two-furlong marker, and she picked up well when he did, running all the way to the line to take fourth place, just over a length behind the winner Not Now Zeb.

It was a big run from Andy Slattery's filly on her belated seasonal debut, her first run as a three-year-old. She was weak in the market and she raced on the far side from her low draw, away from the favoured stands rail. The winner Not Now Zeb raced from stall five, but he switched over behind the field and finished off his race on the near side, while the second and third raced from stalls eight and 10. Silver Spear raced on the far side of the group from stall two.

It took the Clodovil filly a little while to get off the mark last year as a juvenile, but she won a nursery at Fairyhouse in September off a mark of 73, and she stepped forward from that next time on her final run of the season when she finished third in the Listed Legacy Stakes over six furlongs at The Curragh. She should progress from this run now, her first since last October, and she could be even better stepped back up to six furlongs.
