Trusted Ally
Trusted Ally ran better than his finishing position suggests in the opening seven-furlong maiden. Sent forward by Leigh Roche from a good draw, he took up a nice position early on behind leader Bramble Sand. He travelled well down the hill along the inside rail, just behind the leader, but the gap that appeared early in the home straight, between the leader and the rail, closed on him, and he had to check his momentum, which is usually a race-ender up Galway's hill on the flat. His winning chance ended there, but he kept on well enough even after that up the hill to take fourth place behind Blue For You.
Michael O'Callaghan's colt ran well on his racecourse debut, his only previous run. He stayed on well down the outside to go down by just a nose and a neck to Giorgio Vasari and Alex D in a Limerick maiden over six and a half furlongs. He obviously has talent and, out of a sister to St Leger winner Mastery, he could improve for stepping up in trip to a mile or even beyond.
