Fair Angellica
Fair Angellica battled on well to win the seven-furlong nursery at Newmarket on Saturday. She raced in mid-division early on in a race that was run at a moderate pace, so she did well to pick up as well as she did to get the better of Witness Stand, who raced handily, with the pair of them coming nicely clear of Mr Baloo, who led from early. She got a little unbalanced too as they raced into the Dip, but she travelled well and she picked up nicely.
This was just Richard Hughes' filly's third run, and it was her first run on turf. Two for two on all-weather before this, she handled the soft ground well, and she showed a really nice attitude, finishing off her race strongly up the hill and recording the fastest final furlong in the race. Three for three now, she will be of interest if she runs again this season but, even if she doesn't, she will be interesting next season in handicaps off an opening mark of 82. She could progress to be a black-type filly as a three-year-old.
