Bob The Bandit
Bob The Bandit ran a big race in the Brocklesby. Slowly away from stall three, it took him a little while to get into his stride, but he made nice ground towards the leaders on the outside of the entire field early on. He came under a ride fully two and a half furlongs out and, only seventh or eighth at that point, he stayed on well on the far side, away from the stands rail, to take second place. He betrayed his inexperience in the preliminaries and he was weak in the market, but he out-performed all of that.
His trainer Bill Turner has a great record in the Brocklesby, he won the race in 1996, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2011 and in 2013, and Bob The Bandit ran a big race in defeat. He was beaten in a maiden at Wolverhampton on Monday, but he was beaten by a sharp-looking filly in Flicka's Girl who knew her job and who was strong in the market, in a race in which he didn't appear to be at home on the surface or going around a bend. He will be of interest again now on turf, ideally on easy ground and on a straight track.
