Bill Silvers

Bill Silvers put up a nice performance to finish fifth in the Spring Cup at Newbury on Saturday. He lost a little bit of ground when he reared slightly at the start, but he still had the pace to travel up not far off the pace on the near side early on. He made nice progress on the near side from the three-furlong marker, and he looked a threat on the run to the two. He couldn't get to the leaders, but he still kept on well to finish fifth, with a nice break between the first six and the rest. He did best of the horses who raced on the stands side.

It was a good run by Harry Eustace's horse on his seasonal debut, his first run since being gelded. Third in a 10-furlong handicap that Certain Lad won on his final run last season, he shaped here as if a return to that type of trip could suit. He raced just four times last season, he is still nicely unexposed and, allowed go off at 22/1 on Saturday, he has plenty of scope for progression as we move through the season.
