Maxux

Maxux put up another good performance in finishing second in the Alleged Stakes at The Curragh on Saturday. Settled towards the rear of the field early on by Dylan Browne McMonagle, ninth of the 10 runners, she moved up nicely around the outside as they rounded the home turn, and she picked up well on the run to the two-furlong pole. She just couldn't get past White Birch, but she kept on well all the way to the line, she got to within a neck of the winner, closing on the run to the line, a half a length in front of Village Voice with the first three well clear of their rivals.

It was a really nice start to the season by Joseph O'Brien's filly. Winner of a Group 3 race on yielding ground at Fairyhouse on her final run last season, she proved here that she can operate on heavy ground too, but she should be seen to even better effect back on better ground. She has raced just five times, so she has lots of scope for progression. By Frankel and out of the Park Express winner Chrysanthemum, she could be in for a good season.
