Promethean

Promethean did well to finish off his race as well as he did and force a photo for third place in the 10-furlong handicap at Doncaster on Thursday behind Grey Cuban and 'Tchella.

The early pace was not strong, and Promethean sat well off it. Still last of the 10 runners passing the two-furlong marker, he stayed on well from there through traffic. He wasn't exactly checked in his run, but he didn't have a wholly untroubled path, and he did well to stay on to get involved in a photo for third place with Magico and Blake, just a length and a half behind the winner Grey Cuban.

This was a race in which it was difficult for the hold-up horses. The winner and runner-up raced in first and second places from early, and Promethean was fastest through each of the last two furlongs, recording a finishing speed percentage of over 109%. David Meniusier's colt hasn't won yet, but this was just the sixth race of his life and his second this season, he has the potential for much more. The handicapper left him on his mark of 85 after this, and that is a mark off which there could be a decent handicap in him. He obviously goes well on this easy ground and he stays this 10-furlong trip well. A half-brother to Morandi, who won a Group 1 race over 10 furlongs on heavy ground as a juvenile, and Ottilien and Satwa Blue, both winners over a mile and a half, he could do even better stepped up to that trip.
