Elim
Elim put up a good performance to finish second in the Sceptre Stakes over seven furlongs at Doncaster on Sunday. Strong in the market beforehand, she was held up early on by Callum Rodriguez. Switched towards the near side on the run to the two-furlong marker and asked for her effort, she picked up well. While she couldn't match the turn of foot of Great Generation, who burst through in the centre, she kept on well on the near side to take second place behind her.
It was another fine performance by Ed Bethell's filly, on the back of a staying-on fourth in a seven-furlong handicap at York's Ebor meeting. She did well to get as close as she did here to a three-year-old filly who was rated 13lb superior, a Group 3 winner who had run in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest on her previous run. Indeed, four of the first six fillies home here were rated in the 100s, so Elim will be of obvious interest if she were to run in a handicap again now off a mark in the mid-90s. She continues to progress, she obviously handles this soft ground well, and she will be of interest wherever she goes next. It may be that she will improve again for the step back up to a mile.
