Frost At Dawn

Frost At Dawn did plenty wrong in the Listed Ellen Chaloner Stakes that opened proceedings at Newmarket on Saturday. She was smartly away, but she dived a little on exiting the stalls, and it took her a couple of strides before she could recover her equilibrium. She showed lots of pace early on though, she went clear in front on the run into the Dip, but she hung to her left inside the final furlong, and that allowed Tiger Bay get past her, racing on the far side of the track.

It was still a fine run by Frost At Dawn. William Knight's filly did have race fitness on her side, she had run three times this year before Saturday, but there was a lot to like about the pace that she showed, and she had good fillies in Vadream and last year's winner Unequal Love, who went on to win the Wokingham, behind her. It may be that she will be better again dropped back to five furlongs, despite the fact that she won over seven furlongs as a juvenile. She shows lots of speed, and it may be that she is getting faster as she is getting older. She could be on her travels again soon, she goes well on fast ground, but she will be of interest wherever she goes next.
