Past Winners » Calgary Bay

12-Dec-2009

I am giving Calgary Bay one more chance, because you can back him at 14/1 this morning. He was desperately disappointing at Newbury last time, but he was fresh enough in the early stages of the race, and his trainer thinks that he pulled a muscle in his back half way through the race, which makes sense, he went out like a light and it was simply too bad a performance to be true.

If he can reproduce anything like the form that he showed early last season, then he is a shoo-in here off a mark of 142, and there are several reasons why it is just possible that he will. He has run well around Doncaster before, he is at his best on good ground, which he should have today, the step up to three miles should suit and, most pertinently, Graham Lee has been booked for the ride. That’s Rhythm is the most likely winner on the ground if Calgary Bay fails to perform again, but at the prices I am happy to give Henrietta Knight’s horse a final chance.
