Magic City has won twice this season, both times in smooth style, and he finally looks to be fulfilling his early-season two-year-old potential. The manner in which he got to the front from well back in the field over course and distance in May was really likeable, he took a decisive lead out of the field and he held on well when the finishers came at him late on. A 5lb rise looked lenient for that and, although he was beaten on his next start at Chester, that was in a race in which the order barely changed throughout, and he actually did quite well to finish third from his position.

He confirmed himself as a well-handicapped horse when getting back to winning ways at Epsom last time, travelling well and picking up nicely down the outside when shaken up to come a little way clear of the well-treated Amadeus Wolfe Tone. He has been raised just 5lb for that win, and that again looks lenient.

He obviously goes well on downhill tracks, he has good course and distance form, good ground is ideal and, trained by Richard Hannon, he has surely been prepped for a big run at Glorious Goodwood. His draw in 18 is a slight negative, although possibly not as much as it would normally be at Glorious Goodwood as the middle of the track wasn’t a bad place to be in the straight yesterday.

MAGIC CITY WON (ADV 7/1, SP 5/1)
